Held on Thursday, November 5,2026 at the Sheraton Four Points Hotel, Ikot Ekpene, the session, themed “From Homegrown Innovation to Global Markets,” brought together policymakers, investors and ecosystem builders to discuss the policies, funding opportunities and institutional support required to accelerate technology development and entrepreneurship in Akwa Ibom State.

In his capacity as Chairman of the House Committee on Science and Technology, the Etinan lawmaker was invited to share perspectives on legislative interventions, particularly the emerging technologies legislative framework and its proposed five bills.

The engagement also provided an opportunity to examine how government policies, regulatory reforms and public procurement can support local innovators, create opportunities for technology-driven businesses and strengthen the state's innovation ecosystem.

Other panellists included Victoria Fanbumi, representing investment and development finance; Basil Udotai, an ecosystem builder and infrastructure stakeholder; and Onofiok Luke; a Barrister and former lawmaker representing the policy and regulatory sector.

The discussions highlighted the importance of collaboration between government, the private sector and technology entrepreneurs in creating an environment where local ideas can develop into sustainable businesses and competitive products.

Ekpo-Ufot's participation reflects the growing importance of legislative engagement in shaping Akwa Ibom's technology landscape and the need for policies that translate innovation into economic opportunities, enterprise growth and job creation.

As Akwa Ibom continues to explore opportunities in emerging technologies and the digital economy, the contributions of policymakers and other stakeholders remain essential to building an ecosystem where homegrown innovations can thrive and compete beyond the shores of the state.
