Akwa Ibom's flagship annual event, Christmas Unplugged, is set for an exciting new twist, as a carnival float will introduce the 2026 edition on November 30.
The Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Anieti Udofia, made this known on Thursday, November 5, 2026, while appearing as a guest on Tourism Hotspot, a radio programme on Comfort 95.1 FM, Uyo.
Dr. Udofia said Christmas Unplugged 4.0 has introduced new attractions, including Ibom Kitchen, a Golf Tournament, Football Fiesta, Games Arena and the Mbopo Akwa Ibom Beauty Pageant.
He added that a carnival float will also be unveiled to reawaken the people.
According to the Commissioner, all 31 LGAs will be in attendance at the one-day carnival float, alongside sponsors, corporate bodies and stakeholders, to make the experience more memorable.
"It might interest you to note that we are introducing some new additions to Christmas Unplugged 4.0. Aside from Ibom Kitchen, which will showcase our culinary products to the world on a whole new level, we will, for the first time, have a carnival float to introduce the event this year.
"Come November 30, people from all the 31 LGAs will move from Ibom Plaza to Unity Park to signal the beginning of something significant this year," he said.
Dr. Udofia thanked Governor Umo Eno for the robust tourism drive in the state, through investment in strategic infrastructure and programmes such as the ARISE Palm Resort, the International Convention Centre, Ibom Hotels and more.
He also commended Mr. Nkereuwem Onung, Nelson Nseabasi and Abasiofon Anthony for their initiative in hosting a pro-tourism radio programme, Tourism Hotspot, to showcase the Governor's achievements in the tourism sector.
