ONUNG URGES AKWA IBOMITES TO TURN TOURISM ASSETS INTO ECONOMIC WEALTH
…says Gov Eno has consolidated gains of past leaders and reimagined the future!

The Honourary Special Adviser to Akwa Ibom State Governor on Culture & Tourism, Mr Nkereuwem Onung,has called for greater efforts to unlock the economic value of tourism infrastructure in Akwa Ibom State, urging residents to take advantage of government investments to drive sustainable enterprise and economic growth.
Onung, who made the call on Thursday, October 29, 2026, said the state must focus on translating its tourism infrastructure and resources into tangible economic benefits for the people.
He spoke on the maiden edition of Tourism Hotspot, a radio show aired on Comfort 95.1 FM, Uyo, while discussing the topic, “Tourism Business and the Business of Tourism.”
According to him, Governor Umo Eno’s administration has ushered the state into an era of experience, consolidating previous gains while reimagining the future of the state’s development.
He said the administration’s ARISE Agenda had activated available resources and inspired sustainable enterprise,stressing the need to explore the value chain and multiplier effects of infrastructure development.
“Akwa Ibom people should know the value and take advantage of the investment in tourism infrastructure,” Onung said, emphasising the importance of ensuring that government investments translate into opportunities for businesses, entrepreneurs and local communities.
The tourism expert’s remarks highlighted the need to move beyond infrastructure development to building a viable tourism economy in which hospitality businesses, tour operators, transport providers, creative professionals, artisans and other service providers benefit from increased tourism activities.
He also underscored the importance of understanding tourism as a business ecosystem, where destinations, experiences, services and supporting enterprises work together to generate income, create jobs and stimulate local economic development.
Onung is the Chairman of REMLORDS Group and Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Experience Ibom Ltd, the producer of Tourism Hotspot.
He also chairs the Hospitality and Tourism Sector Skills Council of Nigeria, a role that places him at the intersection of tourism, hospitality and workforce development.
The maiden edition of Tourism Hotspot presents a platform for conversations on tourism destinations,investment opportunities,hospitality,travel and the development of Akwa Ibom State’s tourism economy.
The programme,which airs every Thursday by 11am is powered by Experience Ibom Limited and is designed to connect audiences with destination stories, travel information, industry perspectives and opportunities within the tourism and hospitality sectors.
