Maiden Ibom Iconic Awards to Honour Outstanding Individuals, Organisations in December...Organisers say nominations and selection of award recipients will be based on merit.
The organisers of the maiden edition of the Ibom Iconic Awards have announced plans to recognise outstanding individuals, brands and organisations that have made significant contributions to the development and promotion of Akwa Ibom State.
Speaking at a press briefing and the unveiling of the awards at Crystalem Hotels, Edet Akpan Avenue, Uyo on Friday 7 August 2026, the Public Relations Officer of the organising committee, Mr. Ekanem Ekanem, popularly known as "Oga Teaser," said the initiative was established to celebrate indigenous talents and exceptional personalities whose creativity, innovation and dedication have projected the state positively.
He stated that the awards would promote excellence across various sectors while inspiring younger generations to pursue their talents, passion and integrity.
According to him, the organisers are committed to ensuring a transparent and unbiased selection process, adding that the initiative also aims to position Akwa Ibom as a destination for excellence and opportunities.
The Project Manager of the awards, Mr. Uyouko Isaac, popularly known as Isaac Nice, disclosed that winners would emerge in 35 categories spanning business, media, entertainment, education, public service and community development.
He announced that the maiden awards ceremony is scheduled to be held in December 2026.
Also speaking, the Treasurer of the organising committee, Toyin Shonda, popularly known as Toyin Empire, said the awards were designed to encourage individuals and organisations to continually strive for excellence while motivating others to make meaningful contributions to society.
She expressed optimism that the initiative would become a credible platform for recognising outstanding achievements and inspiring greater accomplishments across Akwa Ibom State.
The award categories include honours for entrepreneurs, journalists, bloggers, content creators, radio stations, musicians, Nollywood practitioners, educational institutions, political office holders, hospitality brands, construction firms, healthcare institutions and other distinguished personalities.
The event will also feature special recognition awards, including the Ibom Outstanding Non-Indigene of the Year and the prestigious Ibom Icon of the Year.
