IBOM PLAZA GETS NEW MGT COMMITTEE

A new Management Committee has been inaugurated for Ibom Plaza, to operate for a period of one year.



The 12-member Ibom Plaza Management Committee, has, Mr. Ubong Ekpene as Chairman and Mr. Ubong Matthew as Secretary.


Inaugurating the Committee recently in the Conference room of his Ministry, the Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Anieti Udofia, said, the new Management became imperative, following the expiration of tenure of the old management committee, adding that, there is aldo the urgent need to keep Ibom Plaza in check and maintain the beautiful facelift given to it by Governor Umo Eno.



Dr. Anieti Udofia urged the new team to be innovative and put the night market and other locked-up stores, in the right frame for business to thrive, while also justifying the confidence reposed in them by government with  proper management of the Ibom Plaza, to ensure effective security, good sanitary condition, efficiency and accountability.


He congratulated the new management Committee on their successful appointment and inauguration and used the occasion to commend the Chairman of Uyo Capital City Development Authority, UCCDA, Hon. Anietie Ekah, for sanitizing Ibom Plaza, which is a frontline tourist site in the centre of Uyo, the capital city.



Earlier, in a tone-setting, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Grace Akpan, had said, Ibom Plaza is a key tourism site and revenue generating source of government and urged the new management to ensure remittance of revenue into government coffers to boost IGR of the State.


The Permanent Secretary called on the new management to work closely with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism as the supervising Ministry by reporting regular updates of activities and happenings for the desired collaboration and synergy.


She described Ibom plaza as one of the foremost entertainment and business centers within the heart of Uyo, especially with the beautiful, spacious, Amphi-theatre, and charged the Committee to work assiduously on the safety of vendors, buyers and passers-by. 


In his response, the new Chairman of the Ibom Plaza Committee, Mr. Ubong Ekpene, expressed appreciation to God on their inauguration and thanked the management and staff of the Ministry, for making the day a reality.



Mr. Ubong Ekpene pledged the readiness of his Committee to work in collaboration with the Ministry to achieve the goals envisioned by government for the new Ibom Plaza Management Committee.
