THE SUPREME ELDERS COUNCIL OF IKOT EKPENE SENATORIAL DISTRICT ENDORSED GODSWILL AKPABIO FOR SENATE PRESIDENT.


A long existing group of Elders in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District which is the Senatorial District of the Senator-elect for Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio CON, known as The Supreme Elders Council of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial (SEC) has given reasons why it has thrown its weight to the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, former Senate minority leader in the 8th Senate and immediate past Minister of Niger Delta Affairs Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio to emerge as  President of the 10th Senate.


The Supreme Elders Council with voting strength in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District made thier position known at a Press conference held at Four Point by Sharaton hotel, Ikot Ekpene on Sunday 30th April 2023.


At the conference, Hon. Surveyor (Sir) Usenobong Emmanson Uwah KJW, who spoke on behalf of the Elders Council urged the incoming lawmakers and stakeholders of the All Progressive Congress (APC) to do everything within the armbit of the law to ensure that Akpabio emerges the next Senate President in the 10th National Assembly.


He said: “We believe that the party’s role in the National Assembly Leadership is to ensure the emergence of a competent Senator who has distinguished himself over the years, devoid of religious and tribal sentiment, a pan-Nigerian who has been tested and trusted, proven worthy of integrity, character and prudent management.


He added that apart from stepping down his Presidential ambition and collapsing his support/structure for the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu , Sen. Akpabio stood with these influencial Elders across Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District and delivered more than 25 percent votes required by the constitution in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District where Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio comes from in favour of the APC in the just concluded Presidential/National Assembly Poll.


It's on record that Senator Godswill Akpabio was the best performing Governor in Nigeria between 2007 to 2015 under the watch of the Former President, His Exellency, Goodluck Jonathan.


It was also on record, during the short period he served as the Honorable Minister of Niger Delta Affairs under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, Senator Akpabio completed and relocated the NDDC headquarters to the permanent side which was abandoned 25 years after groundbreaking and was used for syphoning of funds.


The Elders Council maintained that going by Akpabio's antecedents and track record when served Akwa Ibom State as Governor and many other public offices which he held in the past, With Sen. Akpabio, interest of young people, not only in the South-South zone, but the interest of many young persons in Nigeria irrespective of ethnic-religious differences, would be protected.
