The resplendent smiles on the faces of the children, teenagers, youths and adults who thronged the Onna local government council secretariat reflected the timeliness and wide acceptance of the vision and mission to empower underground music talents.
The initiative remains much appreciated by all who come in contact with it, as it fulfills the gospel according to the parable of talents, which states that we are to use whatever talents we've been given to the best of our ability for God's glory, and when we have done that, we are on an equal playing field with other faithful, trustworthy servants of God.
Although a little above 70 musicians of Onna origin registered to compete, only 55 showed up. The screening of talents who deserve to compete at the next stage of the contest wasn't a huge task for the judges who are seasoned in their rights, talking about music producer, King Baseda, radio/event Disc Jockey, DJ Pee Jay and song writer/musician, Godfada Uko.
Eventually, 20 artistes made it to the next stage, they are; Unyime Sunday, Ifiok Felix, Ukeme Anietie, Ukeme ldongesit, Emediong Simon, Stanley Kingsley, Armstrong John, Umanah Johnson, Stella Etim, Divine Davis, Daniel Akan, Iboro Daniel, Aniedi Ifiok, Joseph Udo, Iniobong Itor, Rachael Godwin, Imo Udoh, Dignity Ikpe, Joshua John and Mama Naija.
They will slug it out again on Friday, December 23, 2022 till the final 3 winners emerge to take home the star prize of 3million, 2 million and 1 million naira for the 1st, 2nd & 3rd positions respectively.
Onna Next Music Star is sponsored by the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Youths & Sports, led by Sir Monday Uko, as a model of a grassroots youth-talent development initiative which can be adopted across local government councils in the state.
