Cross River state government will play host to Nigerian tourism stakeholders, as the world marks tourism day on September 27, 2022.
The state commissioner for culture & tourism, Mr Eric Anderson had confirmed that Nigeria's minister for Information & Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed will lead a strong delegation to Calabar, as governor of Cross River State, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade will use the occasion to unveil the 2022 Carnival Calabar theme.
According to the announcement by the ministry of culture & tourism, the general public is invited to this year's World Tourism Day in Calabar with the theme "RETHINKING TOURISM". The event is slated to hold from Sunday 25th to Wednesday 28th September, 2022 at the Transcorp Hotels, Calabar and shall also witness a tour of Arts and Craft Village, Millennium Park, Mary Slessor Park, Old Residency as well as Slave Museum.
In 1979 the United Nations created World Tourism Day (September 27) to increase awareness of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political, and economic values. World Tourism Day is hosted by the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) with the 2022 theme being 'Rethinking Tourism', the World Tourism Day for this year will focus on re-imagining the sector’s growth, both in terms of size and relevance.
The international day of observance, which is the official day, will be hosted by The Republic of Indonesia on September 27, 2022, while Calabar, Cross River state was selected to host the event in Nigeria.
Fun lovers across the country are expected to celebrate the rich tourism potential of Cross River, as the preparation for the 2022 Calabar Festival hots up.
