The meeting was presided by HE the Governor and had in attendance HE the Deputy Governor, Secretary to the State Government, Head of the Civil Service, Honourable Commissioners and Special Adviser.
The meeting commenced at 11 AM with an opening prayer offered by the HC-Finance, Dr. Nsikan Linus Nkan.
BUSINESS OF THE DAY
1. The HC-Environment and Solid Minerals presented a report on the IBB Flood control Project. He informed Council that the project has been completed and is very effective in combating flood from the entire area which was previously flooded, adding that it is ready for commissioning.
2. HC-Agriculture reported that the coconut plantations are doing well and the coconuts have started to fruit. She informed that soon all the plantations will attain optimal productivity.
3. HC-Education presented a report on the state of education. She reported that the gracious increment in the Government’s subvention to Akwa Ibom State University has been very helpful to the smooth running of the institution, which is also reflective in the increased students subscription there. She also reported that the ongoing Scholarship application will end on the 7th of August, 2022.
4. HC-Health presented a state of Health report, assuring that Ikot Abasi General Hospital has been completed and ready for commissioning.He added that the site and drawings for the General hospital, Ibiono Ibom is ready. Council directed that the ground breaking for that Hospital be fixed for next week.
5. Council approved the training of 100 youths under the Dakkada Youth Boot Camp project, by the Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning.
6. The security situation of the state was reviewed and strategic actions directed to ensure the safety of our borders, considering the security challenges facing our country.
The meeting came to a close at 4:32PM with a closing prayer by the HC-Trade and Investment, Engr. Camilla Umoh.
