EndSARS Report; Govt must take action says Sunky O

Popular celebrity lifestyle and branding entrepreneur Ojulari Olasunkanmi better known as ‘Sunky O’, has reacted to the recently released report, by the Justice Doris Okuwobi led Lagos state judicial panel of inquiry,  on restitution for victims of the SARS related abuses and other matters.

The panel made several recommendations which included, but not limited to, disciplinary action for some of the officers who refused to honor the summons of the panel. The report called for adequate funding and effective training for the police, and provision of requisite accoutrements and equipment. It also recommended a better and more harmonized communication system with all security apparatus of Lagos state, and the improvement of the welfare of police officers particularly as it relates to increase in salary, well equipped offices, provision of decent accommodation and transportation.

The report which indicted the Nigerian Army also called for all officers and men of the Army that were deployed to the Lekki toll gate on October 20, 2020 to face appropriate disciplinary action, stripped of their status, and/or dismissed as they are not fit and proper to serve in any public or security service of the nation. It also recommended that the Nigerian Army be discouraged in intervening in internal security matters.

The report further recommended that all those arrested in the course of the protest should be granted bail, those prosecuted for any offence that may be alleged against them or where no prima facie evidence of culpability is disclosed upon due investigation, be released immediately.

In his reaction to the report, Ojulari said the release came at the right time as it will bring closure for a lot of people and has vindicated the Nigerian youths. He called on the federal government and appropriate authorities to take action and put measures in place to check the excesses of some bad eggs in some of the Nation’s security agencies.

Olasunkanmi pleaded with the youths to desist from acts that will disrupt the peace and unity of the Nation while being vigilant and security conscious. He urged them to report any form of suspicious activities to the necessary security agencies, stating that the “Police Is Your Friend”.

Sunky O further called on the youths to participate in active grassroots politics so they can protect their interests in government and the corridors of power.
