NEWS: COSON GETS NEW GM, AS BERNICE ERIEMEGHE TAKES OVER FROM CHINEDU CHUKWUJI


The Board of Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON), the nation’s foremost and most admired copyright collective management organization, has appointed Ms. Bernice Eriemeghe the new General Manager of the society. Before her new appointment, Ms Eriemeghe was Head of Finance & Administration at COSON. Ms Eriemeghe takes over from Mr. Angus Chinedu Chukwuji who has been General Manager of COSON from inception and whose voluntary retirement as General Manager took effect on April 1 during the Coronavirus lockdown.


Bernice Eriemeghe is a graduate of Accounting with an MBA and belongs to several professional bodies amongst which are the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and Institute of Loan and Risk Management of Nigeria (MILRM). The widely travelled Ms. Eriemeghe who speaks fluent French, has had significant international work experience especially in France. Several times in the past, Ms Eriemeghe has acted as the COSON General Manager in the absence of Mr. Chukwuji.


At a brief formal change of baton ceremony which took place at the magnificent COSON House Arena in Ikeja this Thursday, May 7, Mr. Chukwuji thanked the Board of COSON and the members for the opportunity given to him to participate in the building of COSON which he referred to as an exceptional Nigerian institution respected across the world. He declared, “what I have had with COSON was not a job but a passion”. He assured the Board members and staff present that his commitment to the continued growth of COSON remains strong and will last for the rest of his life. He called for a standing ovation for the Chairman of COSON, Chief Tony Okoroji, whose unparalleled vision, commitment and never-say-die spirit according to Mr Chukwuji, are responsible for the resilience and continued development of COSON. Said Mr Chukwuji, “Nothing and no one can break the special bond I have with this extra-ordinary Nigerian”.

Mr Chukwuji appealed to all staff of COSON to give the new General- Manager the same support that was given to him saying that with his new position as a COSON Consultant, as approved by the Board, he is only a phone call away and always available to make  his training and experience useful whenever required by COSON. He presented a copy each of the COSON Memorandum & Articles of Association, the Companies & Allied Matters Act and the Copyright Act to Ms Eriemeghe saying that with strict compliance with the prescriptions of the documents and a complete reading and understanding of the book, “Copyright & the New Millionaires” authored by Chief Tony Okoroji, she cannot go wrong. Finally, he presented Ms. Eriemeghe with the COSON flag and urged her to fly the flag higher and higher.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of COSON, Chief Tony Okoroji praised the former General Manager for his work at COSON and the camaraderie and warmth with which he is passing the torch to his successor, a passage that would have resulted in bad blood and disagreement elsewhere. On behalf of the Board and members of COSON, the Chairman presented Mr Chukwuji with a plaque in recognition and appreciation of his contribution to the growth of collective management of copyright in Nigeria during his almost ten years as General Manager of COSON.

Other new appointments made by the Board are that of Mr. Vincent Adawaisi, formerly Head of Membership who has been appointed Deputy General Manager. Mr Isa Aruna, formerly Head of Datatech has been made Head of Membership & Datatech. Mr. Odiase Anthony , formerly a Finance Executive has been appointed Head of Administration. Mr. Tolulope Balogun (Tohlu Blaize), erstwhile Head of New Media has been appointed Head of Communications & New Media. 
 
At the event, Chief Okoroji pledged that going forward, the COSON Board is laser focused on making COSON a fast class international organization driven by data, digital technology, transparency and accountability with the clear objective being the happiness and well-being of the stakeholders.

Present at the event were COSON Board members such as Kenny St Best, Richard Cole, Maureen Ejezie  and Engr Sharon Essco Wilson.
