GX NEWS UPDATE: Akwa Ibom House of Assembly under attack

The Assembly complex under attack.

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA) premises is currently being attacked by people suspected to be political thugs.
The unknown hoodlums who invaded the Assembly complex along Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo, the capital city, on Monday morning, set fire on the roads leading to the Assembly complex and blocked the entrances to the Chambers.
Meanwhile, the Assembly premises has been cordoned off by the police, following early morning siege by hoodlums.
The thugs were allegedly hired by an embattled member representing the Itu State Constituency, Hon. Idongesit Ituen, who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), to disrupt the session and prevent his seat from being declared vacant over his defection to APC.
Earlier before today, Justice Fatun Riman of the Federal High Court in Uyo, had ruled against Hon. Ituen over his defection, and a copy of the ruling was, last week, sent to the House, which the Speaker, Onofiok Luke, was set to implement today (Monday).
This, it was said forced the lawmaker, Itu, to move towards stalling the action, while waiting for the outcome of his appeal at the Appeal Court sitting in Calabar, Cross River State.
