SPORT NEWS: Barcelona choose bargain Umtiti replacement after accepting Man Utd transfer

Barcelona chiefs have chosen Sevilla defender Clement Lenglet to be their No. 1 replacement for Samuel Umtiti after accepting the distinct possibility that the France international will be joining Manchester United, reports in Spain claim. Umtiti has a £52million release clause in his contract, that United are set to trigger and Barcelona had already begun drawing up a three-man shortlist of potential replacements.
And after careful consideration, they believe that Umtiti’s countryman Lenglet is the perfect addition, according to Sport.  Lenglet, 22, has a £26m release clause in his current deal, which Barcelona officials view as fantastic value considering they will earn twice that amount by selling Umtiti to Jose Mourinho’s Premier League outfit.
The French ace put in an assured performance against United in their Champions League exit at the hands of Sevilla and he has previously admitted that Barcelona would be an attractive prospect. ‘Barcelona are a great team, with international players at a very high level,’ he said. ‘But it’s the same here (at Sevilla), too, and I am happy here.
‘We will see what happens in the future, but for now, I am focused on La Liga and the Champions League.’ Barcelona would also be open to keeping Umtiti and are attempting to extend his contract and club president Josep Maria Bartomeu and his fellow directors are convinced that keeping him would work out cheaper in the long run than signing a replacement this summer. However, they are more concerned by his recent form, which has dipped since he was linked with a move to Old Trafford, according to Marca.
