Five-times World Player of the Year, 4 times Champions League winner and 4 times Golden Boot winner, Cristiano Ronaldo is now a household name all over the World. He has won domestic leagues in England and Spain and he continues to work so hard to win even more.
But who exactly is Cristiano Ronaldo? What kind of childhood did he have? Let’s take a look at five things you might not know about the Portuguese record breaker.

5. Ronaldo was once charged with rape

Shocking, right? Real Madrid star was once in the dock for allegedly raping a woman in a certain London hotel. The charges were however dropped a month after due to lack of evidence.
“I have been notified that the police investigation has been closed and no action will be taken against me in relation to the allegations made previously,” Ronaldo said.
“I have always strongly maintained my innocence of any wrong-doing and I am glad that this matter is at an end so that I can concentrate on playing for Manchester United.”
4. His Football Career almost ended when he was 15
Cristiano Ronaldo career almost ended before it started, when he was 15-year-old. The former Manchester United star was diagnosed with a heart problem that needed an operation.
“His heart raced a lot when he wasn’t running,” Ronaldo’s mother Dolores Aveiro said.
“They used a sort of laser to cauterize the source of the problem. He was operated on in the morning and came out at the end of the afternoon.”
“Before we knew exactly what he had, I was worried because there was the possibility of him giving up playing football. But the treatment went well and after some days he was back at training again” she continued.

3. Liverpool turned down an offer to sign him

Before Ronaldo made that important £12.2 million move to Manchester United, their great rivals Liverpool turned down the opportunity to sign him according to Reds former coach Gerard Houllier.
“I saw him in the Toulon Under-21 tournament and we went for him, but we had a wage scale and we weren’t paying the sort of salary he wanted,” he said.
“Then Manchester United played a friendly against Sporting Lisbon and all their boys said to Sir Alex Ferguson, “You have to sign him”. But I agreed with not breaking the wage structure. I thought it would cause problems in our dressing room.” admitted Houllier.

2. Ronaldo was expelled from School

Yes, that’s right, the four-time golden boot winner was thrown out of school for throwing a chair at the teacher. According to reports, the teacher allegedly mocked Ronaldo poor family something that infuriated him forcing him to react the way he did.
“I was not thick but I was not interested in school,” he said.
“I was expelled after I threw a chair at the teacher. He disrespected me.”

1. Never wanted number 7

Yes, that’s right; four-times World Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo admitted that he never wanted the number 7 jersey when he signed for Manchester United in 2003. The then manager Sir Alex Ferguson, however, gave him the shirt by force.
The iconic number had been worn by Club legends like George Best, Steve Coppell, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona and David Beckham before him and he feared the huge expectation that comes with it.
“After I joined, the manager asked me what number I’d like,” said Ronaldo.
“I said 28. But Ferguson said ‘No, you’re going to have No. 7,’ and the famous shirt was an extra source of motivation. I was forced to live up to such an honor.”
